back from jamaica

And back on track. Of course I didn't eat paleo styles completely while I was at an all inclusive resort. And of course I drank. Not tons but daily. But now I feel bad and upset that everyone has done so well in the challenge and I've failed myself. :(

I only had like 3 beers all week, but there was vodka, wine, champagne... ugh. I was with a group of girls and I'm not using any excuses... but I figured, when the hell will I be in Jamaica again? I have every other week to eat properly and work out. MAKE ME FFEEL BETTER! most of my lunches were good n paleo but I had a few little buffet cakes here and there. And ice cream once. Seriously, make me feel better.

Today I was good. Bacon n eggs for breakfast, black coffee (which I kept up all week and every day. All of my breakfasts were perfect paleo except for one.) I like my coffee black now so it's nbd.

Lunch was a pepperoni stick, some walnuts, shredded coconut and 3 dates. Went to a bridal shower and only ate the veggies n guacamole. I had one bite of cheese.

Dinner at mom and dads: roast pork, artichoke hearts in a vinagrette, green salad and a carrot/sweet potato & pecan dish. It had butter and maple syrup n bourbon in it but I wasn't about to pick apart the ingredients.

And here I am about to boil some eggs for the week. I'm excited to get back into proper eating and feel great about it.

We went to bulk barn and got all kinds of almonds, cashews, almond flour and, my favourite.. coconut flour. I can't wait to make pancakes next weekend with that stuff.

anyhoo, bye.

Week recap

Quick summary of the last few days...

eggs were eaten
bacon too.
so were avocados
an apple and home made almond butter

snacks consisted of various nuts, apples, bananas
one raw coconut/date/vanilla cake. some vegan shit from Noahs. Highly recommend to satisfy that sweet tooth.
hard boiled eggs.

dinners were
salad with sausage and veggies
random stir fry of broccoli, onion, bacon, garlic, ginger, coconut milk (like half a can) and coconut oil. it was good and I made an awesome omelette out of the leftovers this morning.
another salad with avocado, egg, mushroom and lemon juice. boring.

half a sweet potato last night before bed-ish.

lots of black coffees. well, about 2/day. I had a decaf coffee yesterday afternoon. I had three coffees today. too many.

Lunch at Fresh was the raw Italian bowl. Good shit.

Dinner today was a bowl of berries and a banana with cinnamon. Also a small piece of cabbage roll.
2 dates, a handfull of unsweetened coconut and some cashews. I managed to mix it all in one bite to mimic a treat.

Tomorrow we'll probably have eggs and bacon in the morn. And an avocado. and salsa. yum.

Lunch... most likely will buy it. Perhaps something from Fresh again. I wish they served meat. Is there a good burger place in the hood? maybe I'll get a burger on greens.

Week 2 almost finished and a successs. I haven't caved at all for any treats and honestly I've had no desire. I know what will happen if I eat them and it isn't worth it at this time. Every bite counts and it all adds up. Jamaica will be tough and I will be drinking. I'll steer clear of the sweet drinks as much as possible even though rum is made from sugar. We'll see what the selection is like yea?

Looking forward to the local fare but not eating any rice and peas! They like they gyals with big batties bit I ain't joining that club.. nnuh uh. snap snap snap.

K, I probably won't blog anything til I get back. Wish me luck! I hope I don't have to go through sugar withdrawal again when I get back.

bye!

Fri-Sun

Friday was an all day work event. They catered our food. I managed to stick to my rules and only eat the salad, veggies and fruit. There were sandwiches but I just took the salami out and ate it on the salad. I'd rather have that salami than no salami. Then I ate like 20 olives. Meh.

Black coffee a few times.

Sweet potato fries at Jack Astors (slaps wrist) but it beats all the other crap that was served. I also had like 4 glasses of wine. FAIL! But, Saturday was a new day and I got back on track. Starting with a workout at crossfit. It was good but I'm not going on my knees for a while cuz they're all bruised from my push ups and Turkish get-ups. Google it if you're curious.

For breakfast yesterday I had some of those patties again with some avocado and salsa. Lunch was a cabbage roll then dinner at the Keg. I ate a shrimp cocktail including the sauce. A spinach salad that had manadarin oranges, pecans that were pralined and a dressing that definitely had sugar in it. Filet mignon for my main course, with mixed veg and mushrooms. There was a hollandaise sauce that I just didn't resist. I didn't go buck with it, but I had a few dips. No wine. No beer.

After the hockey game we went to meet some friends at a bar. No drinking means I'm bored so we left after a brief visit. I had a few pickles when I got home with cashews. I was friggin hungry!

This morning I'm making pancakes. Not normal pancakes obv. This recipe:

1 cup almond flour + 1/4 cup ground walnuts/coconut flakes (finely ground and blanched is best)
4 eggs
1/3 cup coconut milk (I was eyeballing it)
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt

Instead of adding fruit to the pancake mix, I made a sauce (since I can't really eat maple syrup at the moment.) The sauce was:

half a cup of frozen raspberries
1 apple, peeled and cut into bits
1/4 cup of coconut milk
splash of vanilla
cinnamon to taste
and about a teaspoon of raw honey (I know it's not really accepted but, it's from the earth and I only used a bit)

heated that all in a little sauce pan, reducing it to a thicker consistency. It tastes really good I can't wait to have it on the pancakes!

The sauce looks like that because it's made with coconut milk.

Results: they were good. Needed to be sweeter on their own.. maybe by using some ripe banana or apple sauce. The texture was a bit gritty since it was made from ground nuts, but overall a good little experiment, and satisfied my sweet tooth. Today I'll go to Bulk Barn and get more almond flour as well as coconut flour. I've seen some recipes online for pancakes that use coconut flour and apparently they're fluffy. I believe it.

That's all I've got. Jamaica in a week and I plan on sticking to my eating plan. If I see some special Jamaican treats that I won't normally get at home, yes I'll have some. Other than that, bring on the curried meats and jerk chicken! Rice and peas can kiss my ass because all they do is stick to my ass.

That's it. MK out.

Tuesday Januaryu;dsfhajdks;fhajk;

I'm tired and my head hurts. I was crabby today and unmotivated to do any work. All I wanted to do was eat things and go to crossfit at night. I was really looking forward to it. And I went. It actually reduced the crabby/tired but it's returned. I'm going to bed right after this post.

Breakfast

  • Hard boild egg
  • half avocado
  • bowl of frozen berries, heated with cinnamon. Lots of it.
  • black coffee tasted like shit

Snack:
  • Banana
  • macadamia nuts

Lunch:
  • Cabbage rolls obviously
  • an apple
  • 2 strawberries
  • fuckoff

Snack:
  • I don't remember!! Oh yea, an egg. Hardboiled.

I forgot to mention my delicious black coffee at work. Highlight of my day (food-wise).

Went to crossfit. Kicked some ass. Backsquatted 105lb. Felt good. Movin on up!

Dinner:
  • sausage and mixed veg stir fry. No rice. My new rice is cauliflower. Get over it.

Snack:
  • Half a sweet potato, butter (YEAH!) cinnamon and s&p.
  • yum

GOOD NIGHT. 4 and a half weeks to go!

Sunday & Monday

Sunday:

Egg omelette for breakfast w/red peppers
coffee w/cream - boo

home made no rice cabbage rolls - sub'd rice for cauliflower, meat was a pork/beef mix. All good quality farm meat.

red wine - kill me why don't you!

I don't remember what else.

Oh yea, a hot almond milk w/cinnamon and vanilla.

Monday:

Breakfast:

  • 2 poached eggs
  • half avocado
  • coffee - BLACK

Snackage:
  • Half a sweet potato w/butter s&p and cinnamon
  • macadamia nuts.. which are retardedly expensive btw.

Lunch:
  • leftover cabbage rolls, naturally! (not to mention I'll probably be eating them all week long)
  • an apple

Snackage:
  • black coffee.. just a small one. it was much more enjoyable as it was Starbucks coffee in a French press.
  • like 4 almonds

Dinner:
  • green salad - 1 can of tuna, half a tomato, quarter of a red pepper, some mushrooms and cashews, home made balsamic dressing and lemon juice

On the way home I was thinking about how much I wanted to eat at a nice Italian restaurant for dinner. Maybe some mussels and bread... or a nice pasta dish. Then I remembered.. I CAN'T. Not for another 4 weeks and 5 days. Hey, I just realized the time is going by and all I have is less time to do this challenge! woohoo!

Saturday January 7

5 Week Paleo challenge starts today. Now, I guess. Please note my breakfast was before the official kick-off. She measured me, weighed me, and took a picture of me. She assured me she'd be the only one to see them. Whatever, I don't care. I'd share my weight with you, but I just don't feel like it right now. I think I just saw Jude the Dude on my back deck. He ran away though, as soon as I opened the door.

Breakfast:
  • rice cake/pb/honey
  • coffee w/cream

Lunch:

Dinner:
Ok so I had a long bath then a long laze on the couch. Watched some Arrested Development then had a brief snooze.

  • handfull of almonds
  • 3 celery sticks w/blue cheese
  • bowl of frozen berries - nuked with cinnamon and banana. I love this!
  • the rest of a pureed frozen banana w/peanut butter

Right now I'm drinking a glass of wine. Ok, clearly I am faileo-ing.. but I'm not sweating it. I just bought that bottle of wine last night and I'm not dumping it. Tossing out perfectly good food is just as gluttonous as eating it all at once. Our pantry is not full of crap, but there are some packs of rice/rice pasta, cans of beans etc. which will be consumed at some point. Just not by me within the next 5 weeks. :)

Tomorrow is a new day and a new start. Perfect timing as we need to get groceries. I plan on making rice-free cabbage rolls for Sunday dinner and perhaps a few lunches throughout the week. Basically gonna use this recipe as a guide. I'll add my own twists probably. MMMMMMM. I can't wait to get like 4 avocados. I love avocados, and I was given permission from Summer that I could eat half an avocado a day. (As long as it doesn't interfere with my goals. In that case, I'll make adjustments accordingly).

What are my goals? Less fat, more PHAT. That's all. More muscles and more motivation (from results) to keep at it at the gym. I'm turning 30 this year (eep) so if not now, then when should I give a fuck about my body? I refuse to turn into a thirty-something blob. I just saw an ad on tv about a girl waking up early and going for a run. It pumped me up but we all know I hate mornings. Maybe this will change with the new clean eating? Perhaps. And with all this mild weather, why not go for an am run? (I'll tell ya why, it's 'cause I hate waking up earlier than I have to during the week!!!) Anyway, tonight I am staying in (surprise surprise) because it will help me avoid a) spending money, and b) consuming unnecessary things. Did I mention I'll be on a beach in exactly two weeks? Jamaica. So I have exactly two weeks to reduce a but of the chub so my bikini bottoms aren't digging into my arse. Two weeks.

Happy Saturday.

Tuesday January 3

Tired.

Breakfast:

  • scrambled eggs, coffee

Snack:
  • apple, cinnamon, peanut butter, bit of honey

Lunch:
  • leftover chicken/chorizo/vegetable soup
  • few olives

Dinner:
  • salad - chicken thigh, bacon, cottage cheese, tomato, red pepper, croutons, balsamic.

That's all folks! Told myself I would run in between Crossfit classes-going tomorrow night for sure. I'm back into it baby! back! baby got back! Tonight I'm not running due to saying eff that noise i'm tired and it's cold out even though I have a treadmill I just wanna sit on the couch.

K, here's some ventage...
Do other people have to think about what they eat all the time like I do? Is it normal to constantly think about food and how 'good' I've done today by not eating this or that? What's it like to not have that on your mind at all? I have to concentrate and focus in order not to pig out or eat garbage. That's my inner obese person struggling to break through. And I'm NOT letting her out. I think I have conflicting genes. I think I am a fat skinny person but with this obesity gene nagging me in the background. I'm not supposed to have pudge, I think I'm supposed to be tall and skinny, but my fat gene is taking over. I think I will always be like this (obsessed with body image and constantly trying to avoid weight gain). The only way to avoid going overboard is to not be around delicious, bad food...much like an alcoholic. You know, 'once an addict, always an addict"? well, once a fat kid, always a fat kid. Same same. That's me.

4 Months Later...

Hello! It's been 4 months or so since my last food log. since today is January 1st, the beginning of a new year, it's probably a good idea to get back on track (says the media). Not to mention I will be on a beach in 20 days. GULP. So far, I've failed miserably today. I plan on participating in a new life challenge with my gym which involves me eating only 'real food' for 7 weeks. Everyone pays $30, we attend a meeting and we can communicate in some sort of forum. The winner gets the pot. Motivation! This starts Jan 6, but I'm gonna start this week. Now that I've eaten all the Cheetos in my house, I have no excuse to lost control. So, let's start by sharing what I ate today, the beginning of my beginning. I weighed myself at my parents... and it was about what my scale at home reads. They're both digital. Then I went to my gramma's and weighed myself, hers is an 'analog' scale, which was 5lb lighter than the digital. I like to think the analog one was more accurate. :)

Anyhooooooooooooooooooooooo... TODAY:

Breakfast

  • scrambled eggs / home made chorizo sausage (a few slices) / small piece of ham / coffee with 5% cream and a bit of sugar (x3)

Snack:
  • 5 or so Dill Doritos
  • tea with milk
  • shortbread cookie

Dinner:
  • brown rice pasta / lean ground beef in a tomato sauce, has some blue cheese in it
  • big handfull of Cheetos. (they're all gone now! ok!!?)

That's it for today folks. Tomorrow is a new day. I'll cook up that other chorizo sausage and grab some veggies/fruits for the week. No work tomorrow woohooooo!!! Gonna hit up Crossfit f'sho.

PS, for the challenge, they are going to take body composites so we can compare at the end of the 7 weeks. Sounds a bit humiliating.
